Q)
What is RECON?
A) RECON is a security leash and relaunch system from
Cabrinha.
Q) Is RECON
part of the control system or part of the kite?
A) The RECON components are seamlessly integrated into
the kite and control system.
Q) Can I
use my own control system on a RECON equipped kite?
A) It is possible to use any four line control system
on a Cabrinha RECON equipped kite. However, you will
only be able to take advantage of the Instant Relaunch
feature. It is recommended to use the supplied Powerlock
control system to take advantage of all the RECON features.
Q) Can I
use a RECON equipped control system on a non-RECON equipped
kite?
A) Theoretically yes, but we strongly advise against
it. The RECON features will not be available unless
you are connected to a RECON equipped kite. An Important
Note: Pulling the RECON release while attached to a
non RECON equipped kite while in flight will result
in the kite becoming very powerful and may create a
dangerous situation.
Q) Can I
retrofit my 2002 or 2003 Cabrinha kite or any non-Cabrinha
kite to accept the RECON fittings?
A) Again, the answer is theoretically yes but we strongly
adivse against it. There are many strict design elements
working together to make the RECON function properly.
In addition, any modifications made to the original
design of a Cabrinha kite will void the existing warranty.
Q) What are
the plastic balls and rings on the leader lines?
A) The balls are the handles to activate the Instant
Relaunch feature.
Q) Can I
relaunch the kite using the traditional method?
A) Yes, the kite will relaunch in the traditional method.
In most cases, once you use the Instant Relaunch feature
you will most likely never go back to the old method.
Q) Once I
activate the Immediate Depower will I be able to recover
it in the water and resume riding?
A) Yes, once activated the RECON is recoverable, even
in water. It is noted however that this is an advanced
to expert technique. It is recommended to only deploy
the RECON release when considered necessary.
Q) I understand
that an optional ByPass leash can be attached to the
RECON so that the kite depowers when you unhook and
let go of the bar. Is this true?
A) Yes, the optional ByPass leash works by implementing
a harness mounted leash connection to the back (steering)
lines of the kite. When the rider unhooks and lets go
of the control bar, the RECON is automatically deployed
without activating the RECON release handle. In other
words, it does not undo the velcro and deploy the center
lines. To resume riding, recover the control bar and
the RECON tension fittings will automatically re-seat
themselves and be ready to ride again.
Q) What if
I want to completely disconnect from the kite?
A) A secondary quick release is located below the control
bar (just above the harness loop). Pulling this quick
release will disconnect the rider from the kite.
Q) Can I
use RECON to land my kite?
A) Yes. It is recommended to activate the RECON release
handle just offshore to drop your kite from the sky.
It is always recommended to have a partner catch your
kite.
Q) Can I
use any Recon equipped control system with any sized
kite?
A) Only the 20m BT:Nitro and Co2 kites and the 15.5
Access kite need to use the 58cm control system. It
contains the correct leader length to properly depower
the kite. All other kites can switch between control
bar sizes and still maintain full functionality of the
RECON.
Q) Does the
RECON system effect the flying or turning speed of the
kite?
A) No, the RECON system is so tightly integrated into
the design of the kite that there are only positive
performance benefits.
Q) Can I
spin my bar without getting tangled in the leash?
A) There is no external leash to tangle with. The RECON
is a fully spinning bar.
Q) Does the
Immediate Depower work when in the fixed Powerlock position?
A) All the Recon features are fully functional even
when in the fixed Powerlock position.
