Immediate
Depower
This second generation of Recon allows the rider to
immediately turn off the power of the kite even while
riding by tapping the control bar against the release
handle. The rider then stays connected to the depowered
kite by a leash which is integrated into the harness
loop. As long as the rider is hooked into the harness
loop, they are connected to the leash.
 |
 |
Instant
Relaunch
The same patented function that depowers the kite also
serves as a relaunch feature. When the kite is leading
edge down on the water or snow, it can be launched in
reverse or rolled into a side launch position by pulling
only on the back leader lines.
 |
 |
 Spinning
Leash
Recon’s key components are tightly integrated
into the construction of the kite as well as the control
system. This eliminates the added lines and tethers
normally associated with conventional leashes or reverse
launch systems. There is no 5th line, an external wrist
or harness leash or a complex bridling system.
The lack of an external leash allows
the rider to freely spin the control bar after a loop
or spin maneuver. In addition, the new untwist feature
will automatically take the spin out of your lines.
|
 |
Tap
Out
Recon Generation 2 has added an important security feature
by taking one step out of the release activation equation.
The new Tap Out feature allows
the rider to use a push of the control bar to activate
the Immediate Depower function.
|
 |
 Security
Statistics show that the majority of kitesurfing related
accidents actually occur not on the water but while
on land, during the launching or landing of a kite.
Recon Generation 2 allows the rider
to enable, or turn on the Tap Out security function
prior to launching, landing, or at anytime while riding.
This is simply done by selecting the “Launch”
mode on the Recon release.
|
 |
|
 |
Freedom
of Choice
Whenever the rider is safely on the water they can choose
to select the “Ride” mode on the release.
The “Ride” mode disables
the Tap Out function and allows the rider to
let go of the bar to unspin his lines if necessary.
|
 |
 Manual
Activation
The Immediate Depower function can be still be
activated anytime in either the launch or ride mode,
by lifting the release handle in the direction of the
kite. |
 |
|
 |
Modified
Bullet
Recon Generation 2 also has a modified “bullet”
in the wing tip which facilitates an easier relaunch
of the kite. |
 |
 Simplicity
There are no additional steps to set up Recon. Just
attach the 4 fly lines directly to kite leaders as you
would normally do and the kite is ready to fly. |
 |
|
 |
Tension
Fitting
The key component of the Recon is the patented Recon
tension fitting. In normal flying circumstances, the
tension created from the front fly lines keeps the tension
fitting firmly seated into place and the kite responds
as usual.
The kite slowly drops to the water
directly downwind of the rider. The existing harness
line now serves as the leash line to keep the depowered
kite from going astray
When the release handle is activated
the front lines are lengthened. The Recon tension
fitting then unseats and immediately transfers the
load to the trailing edge. The entire trailing edge
collects together and stalls or depowers the kite.
|
 |
Line
Stoppers
The Recon sliding side line tethers retain the front
fly lines when the Recon release is activated. This
modification has allowed us to bring the point where
the front fly lines split, right down to the centerline
adjustment strap. This has resulted in improved turning
speeds of the kites. |

Recon
Gen 2 Equipped
You must use a Recon equipped control system to take
full advantage of all of its features. It is not recommended
to use a non-Recon equipped control system as you would
lose the security functions.
With a Recon Gen 2 Equipped Control
System,
you will get the full functionality of:
- Tap Out Release
- Immediate Depower
- Instant Relaunch
- Spinning Leash
